An EAA referral can help them return to work sooner and supporting managers in managing attendance.
When to use an EAA referral?
EAA referrals should be completed for:
- Short-term sickness absence
- Health conditions that need non-clinical advice
EAA referrals should not be completed for:
- Recent bereavement
- Recent significant diagnosis
- Long-term sickness absence
- Mental health crisis
- Complex health conditions
An EAA referral should be completed for short-term sickness absence. Early support can help staff return to work where possible.
This might include:
- Coughs and colds
- Diarrhoea and vomiting
- Sudden back pain
What happens when you make an EAA referral?
Staff will be contacted within 24 hours (Monday to Friday) by an occupational health admin or technician.
The call will provide early signposting to support and discusses return-to-work plans.
Following this, a short report is sent to the manager confirming the consultation and expected return timeframe.
