The children and young people’s cancer psychology service helps children and teenagers who have cancer, or are in long term follow up, by helping them deal with the issues they might face.
We help children and their families deal with a range of issue.
We might help you with

Our clinical psychologists work closely with other healthcare professionals to make sure that your child receive the best possible services.
Other professionals we work with include doctors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, dieticians, play therapists and physiotherapists.
How to access the service?
You or your child can be referred to our service by other professionals working in cancer services.
If you think you would like to be referred to our service, please speak to your doctor, nurse or social worker. Family members or carers can also be referred to the service.
Who you might meet
Our team of friendly staff is made up of:
Consultant clinical psychologist/clinical psychologists
The consultant clinical psychologist manages the team, which provides psychological support to your child and your family and supports other members of the team about psychosocial aspects of care. Clinical psychologists also carry out detailed assessments of learning, and liaise closely with schools to best support a child or young person in an education setting.

Deals with telephone enquiries and organises appointments, typing and sending out letters.
Trainee clinical psychologists
We often have trainee clinical psychologists working with the team. They can be at various stages in training and could work with patients and families, provide consultation to staff, and deliver teaching and training.
Assistant psychologists
Assistant psychologists work closely with the qualified clinical psychologists to provide assessment and therapy to children, young people and their families.
