Newcastle Hospitals lit up its Festive Illuminations today to bring our patients, families, carers and staff some much needed brightness during these challenging times.
The Festive illuminations are set to bring some cheer as Dame Jackie Daniel, Chief Executive of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, switches on the lights virtually, and opens the first door of the Trust’s Virtual Advent Calendar.

This year’s festive Illuminations in the Atrium Courtyard at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Renal Courtyard at the Freeman Hospital have been funded by supporters of Newcastle Hospitals Charity for the first time in recognition of a year like no other for the patients and staff of Newcastle Hospitals.
Switching on the lights Dame Jackie Daniel said: “We know this Christmas will be different to other years as COVID-19 means we continue to be careful in protecting our vulnerable loved ones which means we may be unable to spend precious time with family and friends.
“We hope these illuminations bring our patients, their families, carers and our valued staff, some much needed brightness during these difficult times and we would like you to take a moment to enjoy them safely.”
Alongside the Festive Illuminations the Charity has also launched a Tree of Hope campaign.
Supporters can purchase a limited edition heart decoration to be placed on our trees in our hospitals during the festive season featuring a special message.
The Tree of Hope is a symbol of coming together to reflect, share love and kindness and to look to the future when we can all be together again in happier times.
For a small donation of £5 you order a decoration which can be placed on our Tree of Hope at the RVI or at Freeman Hospital including a special message of your choosing: it could be celebratory, a thank you, a message of love or in memory.

Any funds raised by the Tree of Hope campaign will help future charity projects, initiatives that help to improve that health and wellbeing of patients, people and wider communities through compassionate and innovative healthcare, education and research locally and globally.
