Mr Reuben Saharia is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the RVI’s Great North Trauma and Emergency Centre specialising in trauma, use of ultrasound and medical education. He also hold soft tissue injury clinics.
Originally from Newcastle, Mr Saharia undertook his medical training at Edinburgh University, qualifying in 2001. He developed an interest in Emergency Medicine whilst at medical school, which was consolidated during his first SHO job at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Deciding to pursue a surgical route into the specialty, he returned to his native North East in 2002, rotating through a number of northeast Hospitals as a surgical trainee, before commencing registrar training in 2006.
Mr Saharia was appointed as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Victoria infirmary in 2010. During his time at the RVI he has enjoyed being the Emergency Department Trauma Lead and in particular working with colleagues to set up the RVI as a Regional Major Trauma Centre.
He also have a keen interest in medical education and from 2013-2016 was the Departmental Educational Lead and College Tutor. He continues to direct and teach on Advance Life Support, European Trauma and Trauma Simulation courses, and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University.
In May 2017 Mr Saharia was appointed in the management role of Head of Department, which he relinquished in August 2019.
