Dr Julie Hall is a Consultant Neuroradiologist at Newcastle’s Neurosciences Centre where her clinical practice focusses on diagnostic imaging of the brain and spine, and spinal intervention.
Dr Hall has a particular interest in skull base lesions, neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-oncology and neurodegenerative diseases. This complements her ongoing research interest focusing on novel MRI techniques for use in neuromuscular disease. She was awarded one of the first MRC CARP Fellowships in 2019 to develop Motor Unit MRI (MUMRI) as a clinical diagnostic tool in patients suffering from motor neurone disease.
She graduated with distinction from the National University of Ireland, Cork in 1998 and then completed postgraduate medical training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, including a fellowship from the Stroke Association under the supervision of emeritus Professor of Neurology CP Warlow.
This led to the award of an MD in the epidemiology and imaging features of intracranial cavernous malformations from the University of Edinburgh.
In 2004 Dr Hall moved to Newcastle to pursue a career in neuroradiology. After obtaining her fellowship in clinical radiology in 2010, she completed subspeciality training as a fellow in neuroradiology at the RVI where she was appointed consultant in 2015. She has been joint Head of Department in Neuroradiology since 2021.
