Dr Gary Reynolds is an honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at the Freeman Hospital with a clinical and research focus on giant cell arteritis and a research fellow at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University.
Dr Reynolds qualified in Medicine at Newcastle University in 2007 on a graduate programme after completing a degree in Mathematics from Warwick University in 2002.
He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Research Fellowship in 2012. During this he investigated immune mechanisms of rheumatoid arthritis in 2015 and was awarded his PhD in 2015.
Research
Currently Dr Reynolds is a recipient of a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellowship. The focus of this award is to investigate Giant Cell Arteritis with the aim of identifying new therapeutic targets and improving the diagnosis of the condition.
He is a co-author on the British Society of Rheumatology guidelines on the management of Giant Cell Arteritis.
